Miriam: Wassei or Vazquez?

Miriam mistakenly misinterpreted moniker

Meet Miriam Wassei, the woman who broke the mold and chose to keep her maiden name over her husband's surname. Born as the daughter of Abdul Wassei and the second to youngest child, Miriam has always been a trailblazer in her family. She married the tall Mexican, Oscar Vazquez, and together they have three beautiful daughters, Leo, Lucia, and Mina.

Despite societal norms, Miriam has always felt a strong connection to her surname, Wassei. So when she got married, instead of taking on her husband's surname, she decided to add it to her own, becoming Miriam Wassei. This small change has made a big impact on her life and has given her the opportunity to embrace both her heritage and her marriage.

Miriam recently shared her story in an email, mentioning that her married life has been a constant battle with name dysphoria. People often refer to her as Miriam Vazquez, despite her efforts to correct them. However, she perseveres and proudly introduces herself as Miriam Wassei-Vazquez, showcasing her strength and individuality.

Miriam and her family currently reside in the Bay Area of California, where they continue to live a fulfilling life. Her determination to keep her maiden name serves as an inspiration to many women who struggle with the same dilemma. Miriam Wassei is a true icon, blazing the trail for future generations to come.
